MedFilm Festival is pleased to collaborate on the CineMaggio initiative, proposing to the public a selection of works of high artistic profile, in line with the social and cultural significance of Cinema Aquila – a public teather in Rome, a space for watching, listening and for dialogue.

In a contemporary context, where themes like separation, exclusion, racism and xenophobia are re-emerging urgently, it is of  great importance to support mutual understanding among people on the shores of our sea through the ninth art, which creates an extraordinary tool for communicating the values ​​of equality, sharing and participation.

“TOMBA DEL TUFFATORE” directed by Federico Francioni, Yan Cheng
Italy, 2015 | 30 min

A man falls into nothingness. In a twenty-first century museum, on the cover of an ancient Greek tomb, the Paestum Diver is caught in the extreme, suspended act of flying: the passage from life to death; From physical to metaphysical. In this dive into nothingness, however, a question arises: who really is the contemporary diver?

Fatma and her mother are Kurdish refugees in Italy. On their visit to the doctor, Fatma has to translate what the doctor tells to her mother but she keeps silent.

“VALPARAISO” directed by Carlo Sironi
Italiy, 2016 | 20 min

Rocio is a 20 years old gir locked up in and identification and expulsion center in Rome, waiting to be sent back to his country of origin. She has been pregnant during her detention, but she does not want to reveal either how it happened or who she was, preferring to silence. The law does not allow to hold a pregnant woman. Rocio is released on the fourth month of pregnancy with a temporary maternity leave permit. Now she is free but she has to carry on an unwanted pregnancy.

Italy / Belgium, 2016 | 68 min

They are Cosmos, Moses, Ephosus, Franklin, Augustine, Sunday, Esos, Godwin, Abdoulay, Enry, Mustafa, Nathaniel, Charles, Victor, Ali. These African boys ended up in Delta Park, a nice hotel near the Po delta turned into a home for African immigrants, wehere they spend their time with the owner of hotel and his family. In exchange for room and board, the State provides the hotel with 30 euros per day for each refugee, allowing the hotel to get open once again.

A few months before the revolution in Tunisia, 18 year-old Farah has a passion for life and sings in a political rock band. Her mother, knowing the dangers of Tunisia, wants her to pursue a career as a doctor.

Italy, Palestine, 2014 | 89 min

A palestinian poet and an italian journalist meet five palestinians and syrians in Milan who entered Europe via the italian island of Lampedusa after fleeing the war in Syria. They decide to help them complete their journey to Sweden – and hopefully avoid getting themselves arrested as traffickers – by faking a wedding. With a palestinian friend dressed up as the bride and a dozen or so italian and syrian friends as wedding guests, they cross halfway over Europe on a four-day journey of three thousand kilometres.

Serbia, Croatia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Slovenia, 2011 | 115 min

A group of gay activists in Belgrade strikes a tense alliance with Limun, a Serbian crime boss, whose fiancée demands an extravagant wedding that only struggling gay theater director Mirko and his friends can provide. In exchange, macho Limun reluctantly agrees to provide security for the group’s Pride parade.

Mirko, 39 years old, has just left prison. In the outskirts of Rome, a new future waits for him. When he is elected president of the homeowners’ committee, he realizes he can dream of a different kind of existence.
