OFFICIAL COMPETITION
Eros and Psyche Award
The Official Competition of the event is dedicated exclusively to Mediterranean film. It explores the different themes and styles in the attempt of finding new talents and great authors capable of defining a common identity enriched by a variety of languages and narrative styles. The International Jury will assign the Eros and Psyche Award to the best film as well as the Special Mention and Artistic Expression recognitions.

EURIMAGES ITALIA AWARD - New Europe Competition
For the fourth year in a row, in collaboration with Eurimages, there will be a competition dedicated to films produced with the support of Eurimages: a cultural and human journey through Europe and the Mediterranean, emphasising the important role played by the European Council in order to promote high quality cinema and co-productions.

NATIONAL COMPETITION
Italia nel Cinema Award
Competitive section dedicated to young emerging talents of Italian cinema and admission is limited to first and second works. The jury is made up of journalists belonging to important foreign newspapers who assign the Italia nel Cinema Award.

SHORT FILM INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION
Methexis Award
The International Jury will assign the Methexis Award dedicated to the promotion of Peace and Intercultural Dialogue in the Euro-Mediterranean area.

DOCUMENTARY INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION
Open Eyes Award
For the second year running the festival will organize the international documentary competition "Open Eyes": a series of works which give us an open-minded and lively glimpse into the current topical issues regarding Europe and the countries of the Mediterranean area. The Open Eyes Award will be assigned by an international jury composed of well-known experts in the field.

GERMANY AND TURKEY will be the GUESTS OF HONOR of the 2008 MEDFILM FESTIVAL
Germany and Turkey will be the Guests of Honor of the 2008 edition, as an example of intercultural dialogue between a great country in the heart of Europe and a great country, which lies between East and West, and who is a candidate to become part of the Union. Various events have been planned to pay tribute to Germany and Turkey: both countries will have films participating in the main categories and there will be special showcases which will focus on the best films made in both countries. Special attention will also be given to the films of the children of second and third generation Turkish immigrants in Germany, a key representative of whom is Fatih Akin.
A delegation of directors, actors, journalists and field experts from both countries will also be present.

LE REGARD DES AUTRES (review of French contemporary cinema)
France is the main observer and promoter of Mediterranean cultures of our times as well as the main producer of films made by important authors of the South. MedFilm will emphasise this key role by dedicating its review which is now at its third consecutive edition.

Selection of international short films based on the themes explored by the Festival.
