WALLS AND PEOPLE
DES MURS ET DES HOMMES

Dalila Ennadre l MOROCCO / ALGERIA / FRANCE / UAE / QATAR, 2013 l 88′ l DCP l color

Who is hidden behind the walls of the Medina, the historical centre of Casablanca? Dalila Ennadre leads us through the narrow streets and over the threshold of some of the residents. Most of them spend their entire life there; the outside world only comes here through the satellite. Whereas the Medina is a place feeding tourists’ imagination, for them it is not a fairy tale, but the raw reality. “Do we have the Eiffel Tower here? We have nothing,” a boy confides to Ennadre. Albeit apparently neglected and poor, the neighbourhood does not negatively affect its residents’ liveliness. A relaxed, honest impression of the old but firmly beating heart of Casablanca.
